Thank you to the Georgia Climate Project community

December 31, 2020

To the Georgia Climate Project community — at the end of a very long and challenging year, we want to thank you for everything you are doing to address two fundamental questions: What does a changing climate mean for Georgia? What can we do about it?

Whether you are working on these issues every day, studying them in school, or partnering with communities across the state, we are grateful for your passion, expertise, and collaborative spirit.

Thanks to your contributions and generous support from our funders, we have been able to accomplish so much. Here’s a brief recap since our launch in May 2018:

Monthly Webinar Series

This fall, GCP launched a new monthly webinar series addressing what a changing climate means for Georgia. The webinars have addressed climate impacts by themes including coastal Georgia, health, ecosystems, and water resources. Stay tuned for more webinars in 2021! View recordings of previous GCP webinars on our YouTube channel.

Georgia Climate Information Portal

GCP also launched our Climate Information Portal this fall. The goal of this site, created by Georgians for Georgians, is to share information and resources that can help all of us move forward on climate solutions. Visit the Georgia Climate Information Portal. More sections will be posted in 2021.

Georgia Drawdown

We were thrilled to partner with Drawdown Georgia as they developed a list of 20 high-impact solutions that can dramatically reduce Georgia’s carbon footprint by 2030 while also delivering benefits for equity, economic development, public health, and the environment. This exciting initiative will continue in 2021 with the development of implementation plans for the top 20 solutions.

Georgia Climate Stories

We created Georgia Climate Stories to foster a constructive, nonpartisan discussion about how climate change affects Georgia and what can be done about it. Take a virtual tour of climate impacts and solutions in the state with our visualization engine, which includes original content developed by the GCP and partners across the state. Stay tuned for new stories in 2021!

Climate Research Roadmap

In 2018, we published a list of forty unanswered climate research questions that would benefit policymakers and practitioners in Georgia. Since the creation of this list, several questions have been answered! For example, the Drawdown Georgia team answered question #39, “What are the most cost-effective and equitable policy and technology options for reducing emissions of greenhouse gases in Georgia, and how can these be prioritized?”

2019 Georgia Climate Conference

In November 2019, 430 people joined us for the 2nd-ever statewide climate conference. Watch videos from the plenary sessions and breakouts on our YouTube channel. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources will be hosting the next Georgia Climate Conference in 2021. Visit their website for more information.
